Circa 1990, my fifth grade teacher told our class that he believed the writers of Back to the Future took from his time travel novel, It’s About Time (later published as Trapped in Time). Mr. Payne’s book was published eighteen months before Back to the Future’s release. Not only are the two stories similar but Payne and one of Back to the Future’s writers hail from the same city.
